Everything is on HOLD but the chickens!

The work shop is at a stand still at the moment, the guys have been busy working at the Church
and now with day-light savings finishing there is no night work. I love it when work is going on in the shed and lovely pieces of furniture are been made plus the smell of all the different timbers and stains, it is wonderful.

This lovely chest of drawers just needs a few finishing touches then it is on its way. I think it will be another 6 weeks before full time production starts up again in our little shed, I really hope so!

With being away on and off for most of the year my chickens have been roaming free and producing babies, if you look closer there are two little ones being protected by these mums. I couldn't tell you off hand how many chickens I have at the moment (isn't that terrible) but they are all happy. One thing I do know is that I have 3 too many roosters and the time is drawing nearly near to deal with this matter :(

My roosters are lovely but two are already starting to have biffs. The one on the right is the big daddy and he has a son that is much like him in colour, the other two on the left are his also.

My Camellia tree is flowering and looking beautiful near our front door, I didn't want to show you a picture of the front door because the whole house is under construction and it is looking a mess. Is there anybody else out there who is doing renovations and feeling a little frustrated, I need a little pep talk!

I'm knitting! & Furniture

I have been dying to start a knitting project and at last I have. I found this old knitting book in my collection I got from my mum, it is a baby jacket my grandmother made for my daughter many years ago. I thought I would make the set for my son and daughter-in-law who are expecting in november.

The book has about fourteen different crochet and knitted patterns of layette and shawls. We had our first open fire last night, the nights and mornings are starting to get a bit chilly and it was nice sitting there knitting.

I went and picked the last of the corn this morning and cherry tomatoes before the frost hits. The veggie patch is coming to an end and I have to get out there and attack those weeds and prepare the beds for my winter crop. The days are much shorter now that daylight savings has ended and my out door time has amounted to zilch any way I am pleased that my pantry and freezer is full of this years harvest.

We have been busy with the shop and have now decided to make 90% of our furniture ourselves. Below is a box bookcase and a single bed we made for a little boy who was turning two yesterday. His mum was doing his room up and he was moving up to a big boys bed, how sweet.

We also made a bedside table for him as well but I didn't get a picture of that.

This is a nice simple bed that is very solid, we thought we will do it in double and queen sizes as well and sell it at a affordable price. It is so hard these days to buy value for money. I think I will call this bed the "Stockman", what do you think?

Custom Made

In our business we make furniture for the shop and we also custom make furniture for our customers. There isn't much we cannot do, my hubby is so skilled. The unit above is for a customer who has a B & B (bed and breakfast) and she wanted a cupboard to hide a little bar fridge and somewhere for people to store their suitcases and this is the design she wanted.





The customer had some old timber stored under their house, a mixture of hardwoods, cedar and oregon. It was old, odd and rustic, Dave cut the timber to lengths and sanded it back and made this fantastic piece of furniture for them. The door and sides are inserted with mesh and the whole unit was painted with tongue oil. The customers were absolutely thrilled!

Its the weekend again and I hope to do a lot in the garden and around the yard. The chicken pen will be worked on, the little chicks are growing fast. I was thinking of planting potatoes in a couple of the drums, I have been waiting for for the farmer down the road to come and plough the field for me with his tractor but he has been busy with his lambs. My water chestnuts, are overdue to be planted as well as the ginger and garlic . I should have photos of these jobs and also of my sons wedding which we thoroughly enjoyed yesterday as well :)
